12-year-old honors soldier killed in Iraq

VIRGINIA BEACH -- "He was only 19, and he was killed, and I thought that was really sad," explains Noah Banasiewicz.
The North Landing Elementary School student heard about Nick Madaras a few years ago, after watching a story about the soldier on ESPN. Madaras died in Iraq in 2006 after a bomb exploded alongside a road.
While there, Madaras shared his passion for soccer with Iraqi children. It had been his hope to get as many soccer balls as possible shipped to him so he could hand them out.

ABC-TV & Military Channel to Include Nick Madaras in Profile

On Memorial Day, Monday May 31, 2010 at approximately 1:00PM ET, ABC-TV will air three 1-minute profiles on Fallen Heroes.  Nick will be one of the featured soldiers.  The segment will air just prior to the start of the Indy 500. 

In addition, the Military Channel in conjunction with the American Legion, has also created profiles of American Heroes.  As one of ten videos developed so far, the 1-minute segment about PFC Nicholas Madaras will appear on the Miliary Channel.  The segments will be randomly shown 2-3x per day for the next year.
