EAST SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Saturday morning at Sportscenter 481 in East Syracuse, and that means tons of kids playing soccer. And there's also an effort being made to give other children the opportunity to get in the game. Two groups Kick for Nick and Tillie's Touch are collecting sports equipment to give to those in need.

Local Students Support Kick For Nick with Ball Collection

When their grandparents challenged five cousins, ages 9 to 14, to work together on a service project involving sports, many unique ideas came forth. After much brainstorming, they decided to put their efforts toward collecting soccer balls for “Kick for Nick”. In this way they could honor the memory of soccer-loving Nick Madaras, who was killed in Iraq while showing support for our soldiers, who use the balls in their interaction with the young people of both Iraq and Afghanistan.

22 October 2009Micah Stein of Santa Monica, CA will be celebrating his Bar Mitzvah on March 13. He has committed to collecting soccer balls for Kick For Nick for his mitzvah project.
